Plant of the Month
Winter Iris
Always a welcome sight, they flower from January to March in mild spells of weather. Sadly the slugs love them too so it's important to take a photograph quickly. They were given to me by one of my painting students, a treasured gift which brings happy memories of teaching in Adult Education and my lovely students, some of whom I am still in contact with.
It's Mothers Day next month so my Welsh and English cards are now in Penarth and Craft Hub, many of them featuring flowers from my garden, I've added some little butterflies and jewels too.
Hellebores
Another annual favourite, these are so lovely in the Spring garden. Like the Winter Iris they clump up over the years and some of these have been here for at least fifteen years. Situated in the shade bed under the scented Daphne Jacqueline Postill. They make a cheerful splash of colour and perfume. Most of the them come from Farmyard Nurseries Carmarthen, and I added some of their new un-named seedlings last year. I've been waiting and watching to see what the flowers are like and am delighted to see one with beautiful white double petalled flowers.
