Feature of the Month
The New Path in July
The new path is working well, making a lovely journey across the shade bed through the bright pink roses and tall thalictrums. Everything is filling out now and the garden is looking full and lush.
At last the Astilbes are starting to bloom. They were not happy with the dry weather but, with extra watering, their feathery white and pink flower plumes are coming on well.
There are still things to sort out before the Penarth Open Gardens Trail at the end of July but I have made a start.
Foolishly I planted some vigorous Schizostilis (Kaffir Lily) near my Californian Iris a few years ago and they have spread into them with a vengeance. Removing them has involved taking the iris up, cleaning the lilies out of their roots, completely renovating this area and replanting but I would hate to lose my beautiful iris.
Artisans Corner News
Penarth Open Studio Trail is now over for another year. It's been great fun and thank you to everyone for your wonderful support.
I enjoyed giving my demonstration, making a pen and watercolour picture from an en plein air sketch I did a few years ago at Llanthony Abbey. I love gates and gateways and it was great fun developing this one, adding a dry stone wall, some sheep and a landscape background. I have a bit more work to do on it yet but have the completed picture will be in Artisans Corner window next week.
My daughter, Amanda (Silk Moon) also enjoyed taking part based at West House. Amanda sells her lovely fabric products at Artisans Corner and we will be having a joint exhibition at my house for the Penarth Open Gardens too.
